2024: A Year of Reflection, Resilience, and Gratitude

2024: A Year of Reflection, Resilience, and Gratitude

Today is Thanksgiving, a day meant for gratitude and reflection. As I sit with my thoughts, I can’t help but feel the weight of everything this year has brought—heartbreak, resilience, and moments of hope that shined even in the darkest times. 2024 has been a year of rebuilding, in every sense of the word, and I want to take a moment to honor the people and experiences that have made it all worthwhile.

On February 11th, my family’s life changed forever. A fire tore through our home, destroying the entire first floor and leaving us in a state of shock and loss. We lost three beloved animals, countless memories, and the sense of security that comes with home. At just 18, I feel as though my family and I have endured loss and tragedy that many, thankfully, never experience in a lifetime. It’s a hard pill to swallow, but I’ve learned that it’s not a matter of bad luck—it’s a test of strength.

Waking up this morning, on Thanksgiving, not in my childhood home was another hard pill to swallow. It’s not something I ever imagined I’d have to process, and it certainly wasn’t something I felt prepared for. But as I sit with the emotions that come with it, I know that I’m okay. I’m allowing myself to feel the loss, to miss what once was, but also to appreciate where we are now. It’s a journey, and while I don’t have all the answers, I’m learning to make peace with the process.

This year hasn’t just been about loss—it’s been about resilience. It’s been about finding joy and success even when the odds feel stacked against you. My family and I are still in the process of rebuilding our home, and while it’s a slow journey, it’s also a reminder of what truly matters: the love we share, the memories we’ve made, and the strength we’ve found together.

What has carried me through is the love and support of the incredible people in my life. My family, who continues to inspire me every day with their resilience and determination. My friends and teammates, who have stood by me and lifted me up. My coaches and mentors, who remind me to focus on growth, no matter the challenges. And my horses, whose presence brings me peace and purpose in ways words can’t describe.

I’m taking today to reflect on how far I’ve come and the incredible people who have walked this path with me. From the moments of triumph to the quiet conversations that kept me going, I am so grateful. This year has taught me to savor the small victories and to see strength in every challenge.

As 2024 comes to a close, I’m reminded that success isn’t just about achievements—it’s about the perseverance to keep moving forward. To everyone who has supported me, cheered me on, or simply been there when I needed it most, thank you. Your kindness has made this year brighter, even in the hardest moments.

Here’s to love, hope, and the strength to keep going, no matter what life throws our way.

With all my heart,

Ava
